The Christmas limbo period is a time for relaxation, socialising and spending time with the family. These days over the Christmas holidays are precious, but what can you do to keep the whole family happy?

1.     Make your own Christmas tree decorations

This is such an easy and creative activity for young and old. All you need is some festive coloured A4 cardboard, lots of glitter and some gel pens to create something super Christmassy. Of course, upgrading to sequins or sewn decorations is also possible, if you have the expertise!

2.     Make your own chocolate treats

Get yourself your favourite solid chocolate (dark, milk, white – whichever takes your fancy!). Melt in a bain-marie and then add a drop of peppermint essence. Hazelnut, orange or almond also works equally well! Mix together and pour into some Christmassy moulds. Voila – you’ve made yourself some festive chocolates!

3.     Make Christmas cards

Something to let your creative juices flow, for kids and adults alike. Craft shops will be packed with festive stamps and ink, glittery paper and pens and stencils you can use. Grab some metallic card and let your imagination do the rest.

4.     Plan a Christmas buffet and let the kids make it

Gather your kids and get them to write down all their favourite Christmas treats, that they’d like in a little party buffet. Then, ask them what they could make themselves? Whittle out the complicated dishes and set them to work in the kitchen. Food is so much more rewarding when you’ve made it yourself!

6.     Have a Christmassy afternoon tea

Mince pies, plus chocolate Yule log and a hot tea – what’s not to like?

7.     Find your local Christmas market

Sure to be packed with food stalls, fairground rides and maybe a trip to see Santa, your local Christmas market is a sure fire way to get the whole family feeling festive.

8.     Create your own hot chocolate, with all the toppings

With the long cold winter nights, a comforting hot chocolate can be just what the doctor ordered. Try nut milks like hazelnut or almond for a really warming taste and top with your favourite toppings, like marshmallows, cacao powder dusting or even whipped cream!

9.     Learn Christmas origami

Festive, different and certainly a challenge. Making yourself an origami reindeer will definitely have everyone quiet for a few hours!

10.    Decorate Christmas cookies

Grab yourself some plain biscuits, mix together some icing and grab some sprinkles and silver balls. This is so simple and such a treat. Get your children together to decorate their own biscuits. Choose a festive colour for the icing and enjoy munching them after!
