Is The Current Drought Affecting Juice Plus+ Produce?

Show of hands if you’ve done any of the following this week: Made a fresh salad, blended a green smoothie, or made homemade sauce from fresh tomatoes. If you’ve answered yes to any of these, California’s deepening drought should be on your radar.

Nearly half of all U.S. grown fruits, vegetables and nuts come from California, a state that is drying up quickly. According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, the entire state is considered "abnormal ly dry," and two-thirds of California is in "extreme" to "exceptional" drought conditions. Without the Golden State, our supermarket produce sections would be mostly empty, or packed with pricey imports.

But will this shortage affect our very own Juice Plus+ products? As many of our loyal Juice Plus+ customers are aware, Juice Plus+ starts with farm fresh produce, carefully chosen by the best family farmers to ensure the highest quality fruits and vegetables. Recently, Liza Pepple, Juice Plus+ Director of Supply Chain, talked to our peach grower Dustin about the state of agriculture in 2014. Like many, Liza was concerned how the drought could affect Juice Plus+. In their interview, Dustin discusses the drought and its effect on the quality of fruits and vegetables used in Juice Plus+ products. He highlights, “fortunately our condition isn’t affecting the quality of our fruit at all.” He goes on to say, “Our supply will be good for the next couple of years.”
