Homemade Face Masks for Healthy Spring Skin

We talk a lot about eating your way to feel good and looking after your insides, but what about the exterior? The biggest organ of the body – how do we look after that? I’m talking about your skin of course!! The protective out layer that keeps us warm, protects all our inner workings and keeps us beautiful! There are many vitamins, which are essential to keeping your skin plump and youthful – vitamin C and vitamin E being two of the main players. Vitamin C for the growth and repair of cells and vitamin E for cell reproduction. Vitamin D (the sunshine vitamin!) and Vitamin K are also important to healthy skin, nails and hair.

So with this in mind – here’s two power charging face masks you can make at home and one super skin smoothie!

Banana Rama Face Mask

This couldn’t be simpler! Just take a fresh banana, mash in bowl and combine with two teaspoons of honey. Mix until you have a thick and consistent paste and cover a freshly washed and dry face.

Leave for 10-15 minutes and then wash off. Pat face dry.

The Green Machine Face Mask

This is a great one for weathered winter skin – the cucumber/avocado combo is so soothing.

  • ½ cucumber, peeled and chopped
  • 1 tablespoon greek yogurt
  • ½ avocado
  • 1 teaspoon honey

Blend the cucumber until it’s thick and pulpy. Mix in the yogurt by hand. Mash the avocado until mushy in another bowl and then add to cucumber and yogurt mixture. Add honey and mix together until you have a thick paste.

Apply evenly on the face and leave 10-15 minutes. Wash off with warm water and pat face dry.

Skin Boosting Smoothie

Let's remember though - it's just as important to nourish your skin from the inside out. The below smoothie is absolutely packed with vitamins which will keep your skin looking happy and healthy. A one way ticket to healthy cells and therefore - healthy skin!

For this you will need:

  • ½ cucumber
  • 1 fresh banana (potassium)
  • ½ cup fresh blueberries (antioxidants, vitamin C)
  • 1 cup spinach (vitamin E and C)
  • 1 inch piece of ginger, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds
  • 1-2 cups coconut water (calcium, potassium, sodium)

Blend it all up and enjoy! Serves 1 delicious skin-boosting smoothie.
