Nutrition & Wellness with Brittany Hochevar | Juice Plus+

Brittany Hochevar here. Juice Plus+ asked me for a new mom’s perspective on nutrition and wellness, so here I am! 

As many of you may know, I was scheduled to join you at Juice Plus+ LIVE! in Austin last year. As a brand ambassador of about a year and half now, I love to speak about how I fuel with Juice Plus+ and Complete as a pro volleyball player. As disappointed as I was to miss the event, I had to have a baby instead (much earlier than expected)! Meet sweet Maverick Benaiah Hart. 

Like many, I’m experiencing the trials of new motherhood along with all the stress that 2020 has brought. Our healthy habits were put to the test during lockdown, and nutrition has been more important than ever to keep our immune systems strong. I’m grateful for my Juice Plus+ for providing consistent micronutrition for my family that I would otherwise feel uncertain about.  

Something you might not know about me is that I love to cook. I believe that food has a direct impact on our physical and mental health, so I’ve always approached food with as much discipline as my training. 

Below are a few recipes that have been keeping me on track after cooking meal after meal at home with limited trips to the grocery store. My favorite thing about these recipes are that they’re customizable to whatever healthy ingredients are in your fridge. You can also find pictures of these recipes on Instagram from when I took over Stories for a day!

 

Grilled Veggie Salad 

Ingredients:

  • Fresh greens (I mix kale and romaine)
  • 2 ears of roasted corn
  • 1 can roasted chickpeas
  • 1 avocado
  • 1/4 sliced red onion 
  • 1 sliced cucumber 
  • Handful of basil leaves 
  • Lemon juice 
  • Olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste 

Combine extra virgin olive oil, fresh squeezed lemon, and salt & pepper to create your dressing (I like to do a 2:1 ration of olive oil to lemon, but it’s up to you). Pour over greens and toss with chickpeas, cucumber, onion, and avocado. Top with corn fresh off the grill (cut off kernels very carefully!) and basil.

 

Healthy Protein Bowl

  • 1 cup cooked quinoa
  • 1 lb cooked ground turkey or beef 
  • 1 roasted, diced sweet potato
  • ¼ cup pine nuts 
  • ¼ cup toasted pumpkin seeds 
  • 2-3 garlic cloves
  • Can of beans, red or black 
  • Fresh cilantro 

The best thing about a bowl is that the whole family gets what they want. Combine it any way you like, customize the ratio, or try a new ingredient. Add salt, pepper, and/or red pepper flakes to taste.

 

Chicken & Rice Bowl

  • 2 grilled chicken breasts
  • 1 cup cooked quinoa or rice pilaf 
  • 1 cup roasted brussels sprouts 
  • 3 cloves garlic 
  • ¼ cup pine nuts 
  • Swiss chard 
  • 3-4 strips bacon, cooked and crumbled  
  • 2 tbsp olive oil 

Combine cooked rice, chicken, and veggies of choice. I like to chop up the garlic and sauté it with olive oil and the pine nuts, and then add in the swiss chard. Add salt, pepper, and/or red pepper flakes to taste.
