Immerse Infused Water into Your Routine
Need to spruce up your hydration game? Sometimes we all need a change of scenery and let’s be honest here, drinking water every day can get mundane. Thankfully a new trend has caught some traction that can fulfill our nutritional needs: infused water. So, this summer, instead of reaching for a soda, try infusing your water with fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs!
Infusion will not only diversify your water, but will also help you pull out some of the great vitamins and minerals these fruits and vegetables have to offer. If you like to try new things, we have great news: There are hundreds of combinations you can experiment with while using your favorite produce!
The best part about naturally flavored water? How easy it is to make! All you need is a pitcher or water bottle and your ingredients (we’ve listed some of our favorite combinations below)—simple enough, right? After you’ve added all of the ingredients to your pitcher, let them sit for a few hours or overnight in the refrigerator to ensure that the flavors from the fruits, vegetables and herbs have time to fully release into the water. Then enjoy!
Here are four of our favorite infused water recipes:
- Strawberry, Basil and Cucumber: For this recipe, you’ll need three roughly chopped basil leaves, one sliced strawberry and three to five slices of cucumber, ice and water. Combine all these ingredients in a glass or pitcher, and let it sit for at least five minutes before sipping!
- Raspberry Lemon: You can easily make this refreshing recipe with two cups of raspberries, eight cups of water, one large lemon cut into half-inch slices, and two dried Medjool dates. Place raspberries at the bottom of the cup. Add the dates, and then layer the lemon slices on top. To complete, pour water! Place this in the refrigerator for at least one hour.
- Blueberry and Lavender: All you need for this infused water is half a pint of blueberries, a small handful of edible lavender and 64 ounces of water. Place the blueberries and lavender into a pitcher of water, and let it sit for an hour, then enjoy!
- Orange, Strawberry and Mint: Gather up a quarter cup of fresh mint, half a cup of sliced strawberries, half a sliced orange and 16 ounces of filtered water. Prepare by placing all of the fruits and herbs into the cup, fill to the top with water and let it sit overnight in your refrigerator!
Infused water is a creative take on an everyday beverage, adding taste without the artificial sugars or flavors! If you’re feeling adventurous, you can even add vegetables like fennel and jalapenos to create a delightful twist. Another great way to add character to your water is by taking these ingredients and creating ice cubes. Our favorites are these flower ice cubes! Not only are they a beautiful accent to the water, but the light and rosy flavor will make you feel like you’re relaxing at a spa. With the summer months upon us, make sure to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
