Smoothies are a fantastic source of nutrition and can get you well on your way to your 5-a-day. They make the perfect afternoon pick me up and can be a satisfying breakfast that you can take with you on your morning commute.
There are so many different smoothie combinations that you come up with that you will never be bored. Try these essential smoothie hacks to help you create the most delicious and filling smoothies ever!
1. Freeze your bananas
Bananas add a natural sweetness to a smoothie, but they also give them a wonderful smooth texture too. The creaminess is intensified with frozen bananas, so why not store some unpeeled bananas in the freezer to make your smoothies even more delicious.
2. Add Some Green
If you hate green vegetables then sneaking them in to a smoothie is a great idea to help give them a nutritional boost. Spinach, lettuce and kale all blend down really well and you can’t even taste their green goodness depending on what you’ve mixed it with.
3. Practical Preparations and Getting Ahead
Whatever time of day, smoothies are great, however they do make a great on the go breakfast if you’re in a rush. To save even more time, prepare your favourite smoothie mix and store them in separate smoothie bags. Then all you have to do is add water or milk and you’re good to go!
4. Remember the Protein & Healthy Fats
Smoothies are great, but sometimes they’re not very satisfying because you haven’t mixed in some healthy fats and protein. If you don’t have any protein powder, things like nuts, nut butters, avocado, yoghurt and silken tofu are all just as good.
5. Transform Your Smoothies into Ice Lollies
If you have any excess smoothie going spare, why not save it for a rainy day and pour it into some ice lolly moulds to help you cool down in the heat.
