Fuel Up For Trick-Or-Treating: Nutritious Snacks For Halloween

Fright night is upon us and it’s only a matter of time before we see mobs of mini-monsters roaming the streets. Although Halloween is very much about seeing how much candy you can collect in your jack-o-lantern bucket, it definitely doesn’t hurt to balance out those sweets with something a little more nutritious that will provide vitamins and nutrients for a night of fun.

This Halloween, set your kids up for success rather than a sugar crash by fueling them with healthy and delicious Halloween treats. Keep in mind that they’ll have less room in their bellies for candy if you fill them up with healthy food beforehand!

On Halloween, remember the secret ingredient for an attractive treat — fun! A boring sweet potato fry may not be as appealing to your kid as a tootsie roll, but a pumpkin-shaped sweet potato chip might be! In celebration of the spookiest day of the year, we’ve compiled our favorite Halloween treats that will fuel your family for a night of trick-or-treating.

Witch’s Broomsticks

Cheese lovers rejoice! These fun and delicious cheese broomsticks provide a healthy dose of protein, vitamin A, vitamin B12 and of course, calcium. Just remember that too much of a good thing can spoil the nutritional value, so keep the cheese consumption moderate.

Halloween Monster Mouths

Make spooky monster mouths using only peanut butter, apples and yogurt raisins for teeth. Just the yummy treat your family wants to get in the Halloween spirit!

FrankenGuac

This one’s for adults just as much as is it is for children. A great tasting guacamole is hard to beat and provides many essential nutrients and fatty acids for a nutritious snack. Avocados have many nutritional benefits including vitamins, fiber and more potassium than a banana! Be sure to include tomatoes in your guacamole recipe to get even more nutrition out of Mr. FrankenGuac.

Candy Corn Parfait

These adorable fruit creations taste great thanks to the sweet and tangy flavors form the pineapple and peaches. The Greek yogurt dipped banana is not only fun, but will keep the kids full throughout their night of terror and keep them from reaching for another piece of candy.

Jack-O-Lantern Sweet Potato Fries

Sweet potatoes are a healthier alternative to traditional potatoes, making these a great choice for a filling Halloween snack. Creating them is half the fun, so make sure you get everyone involved!

Spooky Fruit Spider

Here’s a quick and easy way to get your kids eating fruit on fright night! Build your own spider using pretzel sticks, grapes and a plum.
