One Simple Change: The Juice Plus+ 7-Day Water Drinking Challenge

Most of us water rookies have been here— we pick up a glass of water to take a sip and feel completely unsatisfied. Displeasure leads us to reach for a much more appealing can of soda to quench our thirst.

Unfortunately, all of those cans can quickly add up to added pounds, added costs (fountain drinks are expensive!) and an increased risk of serious diseases like diabetes. And the truth is, the crisp and refreshing taste of pure water is actually quite satisfying once you become accustomed to it.

Making One Simple Change and switching to a healthy routine of drinking water provides countless benefits, such as countering false cues of hunger to help you with your weight loss goals. Water will flush out toxins to keep you feeling great on the inside and will hydrate your body and your skin to keep you looking amazing on the outside.

For extra motivation to stay healthy, we’ve created the Juice Plus+ 7-Day Water Drinking Challenge. If you’re not yet used to drinking your daily recommended amount of water, this will be a great way to dive into a healthier lifestyle head-first. If you feel you might need some training wheels, try taking the challenge with fruit and vegetable-infused water while you get your taste buds up to speed.

The Institute of Medicine recommends that adult men drink roughly 13 cups of water per day and nine cups per day for women. However, since water intake recommendations are not “one size fits all” and can vary from person to person, our challenge goal will be to drink one ounce per pound weighed. Just remember that drinking too much water too fast can lower your electrolyte count and be dangerous, so don’t get carried away!

Day 1

Welcome to the starting line. A strong start is crucial to ending in the winner’s circle. We’re starting you off easy with a goal of drinking 1/5th of your weight in water today, in addition to the liquids you already drink. That means if you weigh 150 lbs, your challenge will be to drink 30 extra ounces of water today or about 4 glasses of water. Remember, your added glasses may be more or less depending on your size.

Daily Goal: Successfully drink at least 1/5th of your weight in ounces of water in addition to your regular fluid intake.

Day 2

It’s easy to be motivated on the first day, but now’s your chance to build on a great start. Don’t forget that if you ease up now, you’re only hurting yourself! For the second day, try to replace some of the sugary drinks you normally consume with H2O, slowly saying goodbye to calorie-packed drinks that add no nutritional value to your diet.

Daily Goals:

·  Successfully drink at least 1/5th of your weight in ounces of water.

·  Replace at least one sugary drink in your daily routine with water.

Day 3

Third day’s the charm! You’re starting to get used to the taste of water. Don’t stop now! Think about how good you’re already feeling from just your third day of adding hydration and kick your water consumption up a notch to 2/5th of your weight in ounces. To help you meet your increased water intake, try drinking a full glass of water as soon as you wake up.

Daily Goal: Successfully drink at least 2/5th of your weight in ounces of water.

Day 4

It’s time to bring you’re A-game! Today, we’re cutting off sugary drinks in your diet. That’s right, kiss soda goodbye! At this point, you probably crave cold glasses of water, anyways, and it’s now all about consistency. We’ll cut you coffee drinkers some slack, and if you’re really craving a glass of OJ in the morning, we’ll let that slide too (especially since it provides a serving of fruit).

Daily Goals:

·  Successfully drink at least 2/5th of your weight in ounces of water.

·  Replace all sugary drinks in your diet with water.

Day 5

You did great yesterday and now’s the time to stay strong though temptations and add another few ounces of water to your routine. If you started the challenge at the beginning of the week, you’re probably hitting the weekend right about now. That means that wherever you dine, you’ll have to fight hard to opt for the lemon water. Whatever you do, don’t cave in!

Daily Goals:

·  Successfully drink at least 3/5th of your weight in ounces of water.

·  Replace all sugary drinks in your diet with water.

Day 6

Today you’re nearly hitting the goal, taking on drinking 4/5th of your weight in ounces of crisp, refreshing water. Try to keep a water bottle with you during the day and make a point to refill it at least three times. Also, keep an eye out for any water-filled fruits and veggies that will help count towards your goal. You wouldn’t run a marathon without getting in a little practice, so this is the day to make adjustments if you happen to miss your goal.

Daily Goals:

·  Successfully drink 4/5th of your weight in ounces of water.

·  No sugary beverages.

Day 7

You’re in the home stretch and only a few bottles of water are stopping you from beating the Juice Plus+ 7-Day Water Drinking Challenge. Today we’re challenging you to drink one ounce of water for every pound weighed. After today, you will know what it feels like to stay properly hydrated. It’s not so tough!

Keep your water intake up and soon you’ll start to notice the long-term benefits, such as clearer skin, potential weight-loss and an overall great feeling!

Daily Goals:

·  Successfully drink one ounce of water per pound weighed.

·  No sugary beverages.
