Pack Flavor And Nutrients As You Hydrate: 5 Recipes For Water Infused With Fruits And Vegetables

August may be the Sunday of summer, but that doesn’t mean it brings any less heat! In fact, the increased humidity and lack of rain generally make this month the hottest of the year. And like with any enjoyable Sunday, you’ll want to make sure you keep your family’s spirits high by keeping their bodies properly hydrated.

Enter water infused with fruits and vegetables. If you’re struggling to get your family to drink enough water (or if you’re struggling yourself), we may have just found your next obsession in hydration. Don’t cave in to sugary drinks, these trendy concoctions are a great healthy alternative when regular H20 gets stale. Plus, added fresh ingredients also make infused water a great source of antioxidants, vitamins, and other great nutrients.

Infusing water can require a little bit of patience, though. Make sure you let your creations sit for at least a couple of hours (or overnight) before pouring a glassful. Remember all good things take time! The bright side is that these recipes look great in a pitcher, so you may want to let them sit as décor for a while anyways before you drink up!

1. Blueberry Orange Water

Packed with antioxidants, vitamin c and potassium, this unlikely fruit duo goes great in your infused water and will leave you refreshed and satisfied no matter how hot that midday picnic gets. Squeeze in the orange juice for even more flavor and allow a day before drinking for the water to fully infuse.

2. Strawberry, Lime, Cucumber and Mint Water

Mint and cucumber give this recipe a sharp flavor while the strawberry and lime keep it sweet and citrusy. This combination of fruits and vegetables also gives the finished product great visual appeal. We won’t blame you if you opt for this one, simply for its looks.

3. Citrus Cucumber Water

If you like a little tang to your beverage, this is a perfect match for you! Oranges are the star ingredient here, but the cucumber keeps this recipe from simply becoming a watered down orange juice. The lemon and mint also add some bite, without becoming over-powering. If it’s still too bitter for your taste, try tossing the lemon and orange rinds before prep.

4. Watermelon Basil Water

As if watermelon alone wasn’t enough to cool off and hydrate, watermelon infused water with a touch of basil will introduce you to a new level of refreshment! Mash the basil a bit and poke some holes in the fruit to release flavor even faster.

5. Cantaloupe, Honey and Mint Agua Fresca

If you want maximum flavor in minimum time, you can’t argue with an agua fresca. This Latin-American tradition makes for a great drink to slurp when you’re relaxing in the shade on a hot summer day. You’ll need your blender for this one, but the extra step will save you having to wait for the water to infuse.
