How to Open a Pomegranate

In honor of National Pomegranate Month, we’re sharing our favorite way to quickly and easily deseed a pomegranate. This delicious fruit is an excellent source of vitamins A, C and E—plus, it’s also high in folic acid and antioxidants. In addition to a rich and vibrant flavor, pomegranates offer a host of health benefits, including maintaining healthy blood circulation and reducing inflammation. If you’re ready to reap the benefits of this delicious fruit, follow the steps below.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Pomegranate
  • Wooden spoon
  • Bowl to catch the seeds

 

Step 1: Cut the pomegranate in half.

Step 2: Loosen the seeds by plying the edges.

Step 3: Hold the pomegranate over the bowl with the open side facing down.

Step 4: With the wooden spoon, strike the back side of the pomegranate. The seeds will fall into the bowl as you repeat this motion.

Step 5: Remove any extraneous pieces of the rind and the white membrane from the bowl.
